December 2009: Location; Holme Airfield,

Land belonging to J Rotherham Masonry.

The image here is of the excavator digging a trench to remove the blocked drain which has caused extensive flooding to parts of the airfield over the past 9 years.

The blockage was caused entirely by tree roots ingress into 12 inch salt glazed drain pots. In some places the alder tree roots had penetrated right through the drain, causing the whole structure to collapse.

Sadly, about 15 alder trees had to be felled to enable this work to be carried out. Unfortuneately, to re-plant would cause similar problems in the future.

A Very Wet Start To November

Awoke this morning to rain lashing against the bedroom windows, the first thing on my mind is flooding at the unit. Went down to unit 4 at about 10:00, luckily water not upto the workshop entrance, but all road drains full to overflowing. Skiff lane flooded quite badly, wellies needed.

Lifted all valuables above flood level just in case, cleaned woodshavings out of low lying machinery to prevent damage.

I wonder; did John Carr design this beautiful Georgian house in Skeldergate, York? It looks a bit like his standard of architecture. I believe John Carr's house was a little further down the street (now demolished).
